Arguing echoed in the small space. It was almost time to go to the meeting with Lindinia, and we still hadn’t agreed upon who was going. Greyson, Noah, Kalvin, Garen, Keira, and I stood around a table of maps in the main area of Greyson’s tent.

We had been here for an hour and had gotten almost nowhere.

“Will everyone shut the hell up?” Keira yelled for the umpteenth time.

“Lady Keira, that is no way to speak.” Garen crossed his arms, turning back to Greyson. “I just don’t think it is wise for the Sword and Shield to go.”

I shook my head. “Lindinia is already skeptical of us. She specifically sought me out to tell us she wasn’t interested. Seeing the Prince, Sword, and Shield together will show her that we take her seriously and value her.”

Noah took a step forward. “And if I come with you, the mermaid will see that you’re serious about equality.”

“Ya’re not going,” Kalvin repeated.

We were all sounding like broken records, and we were running out of time.

“Final plan,” I spoke over everyone else. “Greyson, Kalvin, Noah, and I go. Keira stays close but not close enough for them to spot or sense her in any way. Garen will have warriors ready at the northern side of camp. If anything happens, we’ll be ready.”

Kalvin nodded. “As much as I don’t like Noah going, I agree with that plan. We can have shadows paired with a couple strong warriors, and they can be there quick. Then the rest can ride in on Garen’s command if need be.”

“I do not agree with this. There are too many unknown variables of going to this meeting in the first place. It could be a trap,” Garen voiced.

I crossed my arms. “Hilde confirmed earlier that Lindinia is a member of the Guard. We can at least trust that she’ll keep to her word.

Keira narrowed her eyes. “Every plan sucks, but it’s really up to the royal pain-in-the-ass.”

Garen glared at her, while everyone else looked at Greyson.

Greyson scratched the back of his head, his armor clanking with the movement. He glanced at Kalvin and me. It seemed like he didn’t know what to do. There were different people telling him different things.

This was what he signed up for, though.

“I think everyone is right.” Greyson straightened, looking around at all of us. “There isn’t a perfect plan here. We should go with Elisia and Kalvin’s plan, though. We can walk there, as Garen suggests. I do agree that it would be too risky to go by shadow, if there is a trap or ambush waiting for us. With that, I think we have the best plan for all of the worst-case scenarios.”

Kalvin pushed off the table he was leaning on. “All right. Then let’s go. We’ll need to take the long way around so we don’t draw attention from Amwell. Garen, get a small unit ready with the shadows.”

“As you wish.” Garen placed his fist to his heart and trotted out.

We all filed out of the tent, heading for the meeting point with Lindinia.
